Here is your Spring Home Maintenance Checklist.
Referred to as “spring cleaning”, it’s that time of year again to ensure your house is efficient and safe. Time to get the house and yard in order from fall/winter and prepare for the Arizona summer. Whether you are thinking about selling your home, or staying in it forever, this spring home maintenance checklist will help to make sure your home is ready for the summer.
Exterior of Home:
Make sure and cut back and remove all landscaping and debris that is touching the home. Trim trees and bushes as necessary and adjust watering systems for flow rate and timing. Give the windows and tracks a good cleaning and caulk around exposed areas and gaps as necessary. This will ensure that you have a nice tight seal to help keep your air conditioning from escaping in the summer. Check the exterior finish of the home for cracks, chips or dents that can be easily filled. Lastly, look at and touch the finish of the home to see if the paint is still in good condition or whether it needs a fresh coat. It should not rub off or become ashy when you run your finger over it.
Air Conditioning:
Have your air conditioner serviced during this time of year. Rates are cheaper prior to the start of the “prime” season and you’ll sleep better knowing that your unit is ready to go for another brutal summer. Also, change out your air filters at this time and check them monthly to see if they should be changed out.
Doors: Check the weather-stripping around the doors to make sure you have a nice tight seal, if not repair and replace as necessary. This will go a long way in conserving electricity during the summer! Garage doors should also have weather-stripping checked for serviceability.
General Cleaning: Everyone’s favorite here, clean the areas of the home that have been neglected over the past months. You know where these areas are, but generally this would be under the refrigerator, stove, washing machine, dryer, couch. Etc. Wash or dry-clean window coverings and drapes. Ceiling fans and blades should be cleaned along with any and all ledges in the home.
Plumbing: Get under the sinks in the bathroom and kitchen and look for any leaks or signs of drips and adjust as necessary. The same goes for all of the laundry room connections and the water heater.
Appliances: Rinse out and degrease or replace the ventilation filter from the stove. Wash out the drip pan from the refrigerator. Replace any filters in the fridge for water units if needed.
Smoke Detectors: This is the perfect time of year to change all of the batteries in your detectors.
Gas Grill:
Once you’ve completed your spring home maintenance checklist, check your gas grill and make sure the propane tank is full and all of your burners, ignition, hoses and connections are free from leaks. Grab your favorite beverage; throw some steaks on the grill and relax. You did a lot of work and deserve to enjoy it for a while!
